President
Stewart Wilson welcomed our speakers Robbie Dempster, Rory Lang and Tom
Cafferty. Sports Convener Colin Bayes reported another win in the Gavel
competition. Against the very hospitable Kirkcaldy club, we initially
fell behind, but the Stirling team rallied, winning the heat on the final
point, taking us into round three.
Our speakers, Stirling Scouts Robbie, Rory and Tom, were part of a group of
fifty Scouts taking part in a project, "Build Namibia" to which we
had contributed. They were in Namibia for three weeks helping to build a
school, toilets and gardens, with the aim of helping education, facilitating hygiene
and providing clean water. Before their arrival the land had been
cleared, a well bored and the school walls built ready for them to roof. They
were also involved in digging trenches for connecting pipes, heavy going in
such a hot climate. At the end they had a well-deserved period of rest and
relaxation. The talk was well presented by the boys and accompanied by
informative illustrations. It was evident that all three had enjoyed their
experience of Africa, and the end product will improve the lives of the local
population for many years to come. All in all a very worthwhile and well
organised project, and an experience from which the Scouts will have gained
much.
The vote of thanks was given by Colin Bayes. Meeting of 8th
December, Speaker’s host Bill Bryce, Visitor's host Tom Thomson. For
