Highfield Leadership Academy Christmas Tea Party for elderly residents.

Highfield students arranged a lovely Christmas Tea Party for residents in the community

As Christmas approached, Highfield Leadership Academy pupils were encouraged to make this festive period a time of giving.  As part of their kindness campaign the students offered the gift of companionship this Christmas.

On the 20th December, at the suggestion of the students the Academy hosted a Tea Party for some of the elderly members of our community, offering them an afternoon of cakes, conversation and carols. The young people led the event serving refreshments, leading carols and a sing-along and making Christmas cards and decorations for each of the 40 plus guests.  Executive Principal Mrs Helen Mackenzie OBE and her team were present throughout.

Blackpool South Rotary Club was pleased to support this great initiative by arranging for eleven elderly members to attend the party and providing transport for some.

Students helped to serve and prepare the delicious food and two students sat on each table to chat to their guest.  With instrumentalists and a choir, they really provided a festive atmosphere.

This wonderful tea party was only one of a number of projects in recent times the students have undertaken to help those in need.

Many Congratulations to the students.  Their activities are entirely consistent with Rotary International’s guiding principle of ‘SERVICE ABOVE SELF’.
