The 59th running of the All Wales Roll The Barrel competition 2017


Hundreds of people turned out on a crisp and sunny Boxing Day morning at Denbigh to watch the 59th running of the All Wales Roll The Barrel Championship where a total of 26 senior competitors and 70 junior competitors took part.

There was a truly international aspect to this year's event with competitors from as far afield as 

America, Germany, Switzerland and many parts of the UK - the list of winners being as follows:

Junior Boys - Alfie Hoyles of Henllan School

Junior Girls - Ffion Jones of Ysgol Twm Or Nant

Senior Boys - Gwilym Williams of Ysgol Glan Clwyd 

Senior Girls - Freya Mesham of Denbigh High School

 

Mens Championship winner - Gareth Owen of Llanefydd

Womens Championship winner - Tina Hoyle of Denbigh

Team winners - Llion Edwards and  Ioan Jones of Denbigh

Prior to the main event the crowd were entertained by a procession of 25 vintage tractors of various makes and sizes, which were then followed with a visit by the horses and hounds of the Flint and Denbigh Hunt.

Raffle ticket sales have again this year been excellent with over three and a half thousand tickets sold, and together with sponsorship from various local companies and organisations, the total money raised from this year's event will be over £7,500, that will be distributed to various charities over the next twelve months.

Raffle ticket winners were :

1st prize - Eleanor Roberts of Llanrwst

2nd prize - Gwyn Williams of Denbigh

3rd prise - Beryl Jones of Denbigh
