Cambuslang Rotary Club celebrate Burns night

Cambuslang Rotary Club celebrated Burns night on Saturday 20th Jan when we held our annual Burns Supper at the Kings Park Hotel.  Rotary members, family and friends all enjoyed an excellent evening of good food, speeches and entertainment.

The guests were welcomed at the door by piper David Beveridge, who also piped in the haggis. The address to the haggis was expertly given by former club member Kenny Wilson, a last minute replacement for Ewen Hutcheon. Club President Tony Neeson chaired the evening with his usual wit and charm, introducing the various speakers and entertainers.

After tucking in to a traditional 3 course meal the second half of the evening began with local singer Anna Heywood who delighted the audience with her performance of three Burns songs. Anna was followed by Graham Hill, who had a very busy evening delivering first the Immortal Memory and then an enthralling Tam O’Shanter. The Toast to the Lassies was given by Ian Macpherson MBE, and the reply by Yvonne Waring, both of whom had their audiences in fits of laughter.

The evening concluded with everyone joining in with the community singing led by Anna and then the vote of thanks from our Vice President Robert Dickie.

The club would like to thank everyone who braved the Arctic weather conditions and came along to support the evening. We  raised over £1000 and this money will be distributed to local charities supported by the club.
