Time to get those thinking caps on!!

QUIZ NIGHT AT THE FROCESTER GEORGE

From time to time, rather than having a Speaker evening, we enjoy a bit of competitive grey matter exercise.   Over the years we have enjoyed a variety of such evenings.  Some spring to mind, such as Joe Nash’s Call my Bluff events; Mike Selly’s Music Quiz;  Roz and I with our Guess the Object and Name that Tune  and Steve and Wendy’s  Quiz events and one or two others I may have forgotten.

So on Wednesday evening, Mike Shillitoe subjected us to a Quiz evening.   We formed up into three teams, A, B, and C with teams A and B competing to grab latecomer Charles Buckley for their team. Charles having a reputation for being a bit of a whizz when it comes to Quizzes.

We were required to answer  six questions on each of several subjects,  ranging over History, Geography,  Rotary, General Knowledge, Botany, and Entertainment  ( I think I have recalled  the topics more or less correctly).  There was the usual Joker round to nominate, whereby your score was automatically doubled.

There were some challenging questions like ‘Where do Pecan nuts come from’  to a slightly embarrassing one like ‘What is the first line of the Rotary Four Way Test’.

These quizzes usually boil down to ‘ I have no idea what the answer is and I have never known’  (ignorance!) or ‘ I know the answer to this one but I am damned if I can recall it right now’ (amnesia or dementia – take your pick).

Anyway, with  a tie breaker round being required to differentiate between teams A and C,-  team C were declared the winners, with a pack of confectionary as a reward.

A thoroughly enjoyable evening was declared by all and a vote of thanks given to Mike for the hard work which always goes into these events.
