Rev George Whitfield - one of the founders of Methodism.

George was born in Gloucester. Speaker-Mark Jones.


Mark Jones from Radio Gloucester, gave a very interesting and lively talk on the life of Rev. George Whitefield, one of the founders of Methodism and the Evangelical Movement.

George was born on December 16th 1714, at the Bell Hotel in Gloucester. He was later educated at Oxford University.

He travelled to America and together with John and Charles Wesley founded the Methodist Movement.

He founded the Bethesda Orphanage for under priviledged boys, this is still in existence today. George was a great humanitarian who believed in the rights of all.

George died on September 30th 1770, he was 56 years old.

While researching the life of George Whitefield, Mark travelled to Boston USA  and traced the path of this amazing man.
