Youth Awards 2017/18

Here is some really good news about Bromley’s young people.

Bromley Rotary celebrates community achievements with its 2017/18 Youth Awards

On Friday, 26th January 2018, at Langley Park Centre for the Performing Arts, Bromley’s Mayor, Cllr Kathy Bance MBE presented awards to 24 students from eight of Bromley’s secondary schools. The awards were for outstanding achievements in the community ranging from raising funds for charities, to helping disabled children, to caring for family members.

Every story was different but every boy and girl, from age 11 to 18, had an inspirational tale to tell.  Some had travelled across the world, others had helped friends and neighbours nearer home. Some had devoted themselves to a single person or event, others had worked for many charities. Some had contributed alone, others had worked with organisations or social networks.  All had used their own imagination and drive to contribute to the community in which we live – often unbeknownst (until now) to the school that they attend.

The Award Ceremony was attended by around 150 proud friends, family and teachers, plus Mayor Kathy Bance, local MP Bob Neill, and Rotarians from across Bromley. They were entertained by Lucy Coop, from Charles Darwin School and a winner last year, who played cello; and by the Langley Park School for Boys Jazz Ensemble. It was presented by Stuart Jack and John Bruce and a vote of thanks was delivered by Mike Elisha, president of Bromley Rotary Club.

The Mayor clearly enjoyed the occasion and said how important it is for us to identify and recognise what young people are doing in the community and especially in Bromley

Award winners came from the following schools: Bromley High School, Charles Darwin School, Hayes School, Harris Academy Beckenham, Harris Girls Academy Beckenham, Langley Park School for Boys, St Olave’s Grammar School, and The Ravensbourne School.

Molayo Ogunde, Ben Parish, Matthew Perry, Ella Powell, Chloe Roberts, James Sears, Bronwen Sharp, Mia Shillingford, and Abhishek Swamy.

A number of students who were not award winners, were awarded commendation certificates. These went to Kapenajah Sribaskaran, Heather Finden, Kiran Heer, Ayamarie Brown, Harry Clow, Elizabeth Cooke, Emily Coupe, Ritvik Dinesh, Olivia Dyer, William Fall, Olivia Pinkney, T'yanna Stone, Khiam Spencer, Lily Eldridge, Savida Gkiouzi, Taiana Lewin, and Mathilda Schira.
