A splash of colour in the park

Spennymoor Rotary brought a hint of Japan to Jubilee Park earlier this month. The club had already donated 100 saplings to the regeneration of the Cow Plantation, as part of Rotary International's global environmental initiative. On this occasion, members of the club planted a flowering cherry tree, making the most of the sunshine on Thursday 4th April. Club President Jazmin Orrick explained " This year's Rotary theme is ' Making a Difference.' We decided the best way to do that was to use the planting scheme to leave something that would last for years to come."  Spennymoor Town Mayor Ian Machin welcomed the club's support for a vital green space in the heart of the town. If the global scheme is successful, then by 22nd April - World Earth Day - 1.2 million trees will have been planted worldwide: one for each Rotarian.
