Speaker Debra Jones from Hi-Kent:

Debra gave an interesting talk on Hi-Kent one of the Club's charities for         2019/20.    The 'Hi' in Hi-Kent stands for 'Hearing Impairment' and the             charity provides a wide range of services and support for approximately 65,000 people in Kent who have been diagnosed with hearing loss.    It is             forecast that the demand for their services will grow at the population           ages as one in six people have some form of hearing loss.   There are         hearing aid clinics across Kent with the nearest being in Whitstable      Health Centre where support is provided for those who have been     provided with NHS equipment.    There is also a home visiting service          which assess patient needs and provides a range of equipment such as

louder telephones, TV recorders, vibrating and flashing alarms.   Lip- reading and signing classes are also provided at Canterbury and    Faversham.   One in ten people suffer from tinnitus and Hi Kent runs free             support groups in Faversham and Canterbury where trained volunteers       help sufferers.    There is a clear link between hearing impairment, social           isolation and the onset of Alzeimher's.   Hi Kent runs a range of       fundraising events and would be happy to support the Club in any way          they can.

Appeal for Sensory Equipment for Evie Toner:

Evie is a severely disabled little girl who is both deaf and blind.    Her parents have appealed for financial help to purchase sensory equipment     for her.     The Board discussed the appeal and recommended that the         Club make a donation of £209.00 for the purchase of an echo chamber             which was agreed with one vote against.
