There will be a celebration of Jenny’s life at the Cathedral in the third week of September and the date and time will be circulated when available.
Evie Toner:
Evie is the little deaf and blind girl for whom the Club agreed to purchase an Echo Chamber at a cost of £209.00. In the meantime her parents have already bought and Echo Chamber and it was agreed that the Club would purchase other item(s) for Evie at a cost not exceeding £209.00.
Committees:
Just a reminder that everyone is expected to serve on a committee so please decide as soon as possible which committee(s) you would like to join. Kathy needs support on Community and Vocational committee.
Subscriptions:
Two or three members have yet to pay their subscriptions and David M. will be in touch with them at the deadline draws nigh.
Pippa’s Car:
Pippa’s car should be back today.
Thursday, July 11th - Board Meeting:
Sue’s first as Board meeting as President was on July 11th and the minutes have been circulated.
Monday, July 22nd – Tea By the Sea:
Everyone is welcome at an informal Tea By The Sea at Dave and Diane’s beach hut at 154 West Beach, Herne Bay at 6.00 pm on Monday, July 22nd. Diane is organising light refreshments for which donations to the Club Charity Fund will be welcome.
Thursday, July 25th – Evening Meeting with Speaker, Rebecca Futrell from Alzeimhers’ Research:
The meeting next week will be in the evening at the Golf Club at 7.00 for 7.30 pm when the speaker will be Rebecca Futrell from Alzeimhers Research. Please remember that this is a regular meeting of the Club when everyone is expected to attend unless apologies are sent to Lesley as usual.
Thursday, August 1st - Cheque Presentation to Pilgrim’s Hospice and Open Your Heart To Bhutan:
Representatives of the two charities will be at the meeting to receive their donation cheques from the Club. Also there will be Neil Frazer from RC Canterbury and Andy Dale, President, and John Gisby from RC Sandwich. Neil wants to talk about co-operation on fundraising for an outside play area at the Honey Bear Day Centre. Andy and John would like the Club to join Sandwith in a joint fundraising project with RC Thimpu for Open Your Heart to Bhutan.
Saturday, August 3rd - Whitstable Harbour Day:
The Club will be taking part in Whitstable Harbour Day on Saturday, August 3rd and help is needed for sessions between 10.00 am and 1.00 pm and 1.00 pm to 4.00 pm. Please sign up or just turn up. Dress code: Maritime costume or Rotary T-shirts.
Sunday, August 4th – Car Parking:
The next car parking will be on Sunday, August 4th . There is a form in the folder so please sign up if you can as this is likely to be a busy day. There will be someone their from Hearing Dogs with their dog.
Saturday, August 17th – Trip from Sandwich on former Gun Boat P22:
Twelve spaces are available on the former gunboat for a trip up the river and then into the bay where it will anchor by the seal sanctuary to watch the seals. The cost will be £35.00 per person. P22 will depart at 11.30 am and return at 15.30 pm. Light refreshments will be available on board. Ron will book four places but anyone else wishing to join the trip should contact Ron or sign up on the form in the folder.
Thursday, August 22nd – Speaker Jackie from the Haven Project;
The Board is considering a possible District Grant for the Haven Project which provides meals and support for the homeless in Whitstable. Donations of food for the Canterbury Food Bank have declined which means that they in turn have had to cut back on their donations to the Haven Project which is not getting enough food to meet demand.
Friday, September 6th – Charity Golf Day:
The Club Charity Golf Day in aid of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People and Alzeimher’s Research will take place on Friday, September 6th. So far six teams have signed up and more are needed as are sponsors for four or five holes. Nick needs help setting up, meeting and greeting, booking-in, selling raffle tickets and running the putting competition, from 9.30 am until midday and from 3.00 pm for an hour or so. There is a form in the folder so please sign-up if you can help or if you would like to join the meal in the evening. Good prizes for the raffle are also needed.
December 7th 2019 – Christmas Dinner:
The date of Saturday, December 7th was agreed for the Christmas Dinner. Ron is in touch with Mr. Mucini, whose restaurant has just moved to the former Lounge, as a possible venue. There will be a form in the folder as soon as details are finalized.
Raffle:
Maureen won a box of After Eights while Nick went off clutching a bottle of wine.
Master of Alms:
Nick stretched the days for this, that and the other to get ever closer to his target for the year.
