The new President and Vice-President receive their medals

The Great Marlow School Junior Interact Club which meets at lunchtimes on Tuesdays recently held their annual handover ceremony celebrating the lead of a new President and Vice President. On the evening of Tuesday 8th, the previous leaders of the Interact Club passed over their roles with the customary handing over of the Rotary Club Medals.

Interact is a student run club that hosts charitable events for the entire school to enjoy; including the ice cream sales on Sports Day (a popular stall for many participants), which raised around £200 last year, and equally popular cake sales. It is safe to say that the club has catered for every student’s sweet tooth while donating to some very worthy causes.

The new leaders already have fund-raising plans for the upcoming months including a car wash (assuming the sun will last).  The Junior Rotary Club’s fund-raised profits then go to a charity of the students’ choice. This and last year’s choices have been Build On Books, which supplies educational material, Ebola treatment for people in Sierra Leone and Kyrece’s Legacy, which promotes water safety and education. Last year’s group managed to raise almost £300 for each charity - an amazing donation for some incredibly beneficial charities. This year’s club also plans to make monthly trips to local care homes - providing they can organise the lift shares.

While, previously, the club has only been open to year 12s and 13s, this year’s administration are considering opening the club up to year 11 as well; should there be enough interest. Currently the club only has 4 year 12 members to take over after the older students have left and will be looking for some keen pupils to join the ranks.

The new President said that she is “very excited to take on this responsibility and is looking forward to this year’s events”. Unfortunately, the Vice President was taken ill with tonsilitis and was unable to attend the ceremony. However one of the other members was able to take on the task at the last minute (as seen in the photos).
