Charity Putting Event

It was a glorious evening on Thursday 28th June, when we held our Annual Charity Putting Competition on the much-loved Himalayas Putting Green.

There were 59 players and 4 non-players, who ensured that the buffet tea was laid out in the Clubhouse for the players when they had finished.

After the rounds, during which there was much hilarity, fellowship and a number of cheers as holes-in-one were achieved, everyone enjoyed a lovely spread of quiche, sandwiches and traybakes provided by some members, all washed down by a welcome cup of tea, coffee or juice.

Then came the prize-giving which, due to the lovely weather, was held outside the Clubhouse.   The overall winner was Iain MacKinnon with an excellent score of 42.  Very close runner-up was Robbie Asgill with a score of 43.

The 1st team was, not surprisingly, Team MacKinnon, with a total score of 186.  Iain and Robbie's partners were Jean MacKinnon and Peter Ball.

The Booby prize was won by Team Rhind. One of its members was Mrs Anne Tynte-Irvine, who told us that her great great grandfather, Mr David Lang Burn, had started the Putting Greens so that those who could no longer play golf could still enjoy some of the experience of the game.

The tickets for the event were numbered and everyone had a chance to win one of the many prizes in the free draw.

A great evening was enjoyed by all and President John Spittal thanked everyone for taking part.  All funds raised, almost £500, will be added to the Club's Charity Fund for distribution in the coming new Rotary Year.
