Recent Events
Mon 7th May - Fellowship
Mon 14th May - Brian Park told us about his experience in helping supervise the elections for change in Rhodesia/Zimbabwe in 1980. The white minority government led by Ian Smith had declared UDI in 1965 but after years of sanctions and internal rebellion it was forced into calling a free election which despite many fears went ahead peacefully thanks to the supervising help provided by British police etc. The election was won by Robert Mugabe who is still in power!
Fri May 18th – Our Annual Bread and Cheese Lunch for Christian Aid was well supported by members who set up the event and acted as waiters and dishwashers etc. The amount raised so far amounts to £748. Thanks are due to Lactalis, Tesco, Morrisons and McMillan Hotels for their help in providing cheese etc.
Mon 21st May – Pre – Assembly Meeting at which plans for the next Rotary year were discussed.
Tues 22nd May – Primary Schools Quiz – report to be included in next Newsletter
Mon 28th May – Hugh Chalmers spoke about the substantial support of Lottery funding provided for the Olympic curling team and the problems caused by the reduction in funding following the drop in Lottery sales after their price increase from £1 to £2
Subscriptions 2018 – 19
The amount of our annual Subscription, due at the end of June, will be finalised at our Club Assembly meeting on 11th June. There is likely to be a small increase from £103 to £105.
Resignation of member
Jim Burns has resigned after many years as a member including several years as Secretary. Thanks to Jim for his contribution to the Club.
Senior Citizens’ Outing
This event has been postponed until later in the summer.
Rugby
Our group of supporters and friends make good use of their season tickets to watch Glasgow Warriors. All of our group of 10 renewed their season tickets last season and were joined by 2 new supporters bringing us up to 12.
Our season ticket holders are again making their tickets available to Club members for individual matches which they themselves are unable to attend. It is essential that Tom Mitchell is contacted at an early stage before spares are offered to others.
After an excellent season of rugby Glasgow Warriors lost their play off semi-final bringing their season to a sad end. In the circumstances the trip to Dublin for the Final was cancelled.
It is expected that all our season ticket holders will be renewing for next season. Let Tom Mitchell know if you want to join us.
