Today at breakfast we were visited by John Prior Morris, a Trustee of the Friends of Insole Court. Adopting the role of George Insole (1847-1917), he told us the story of the Insole family, starting with his grandfather George (1790-1851) who founded the family's fortunes as a trader, buying and selling coal. The family grew to become one of the major coal and dock businesses in Cardiff, and with the wealth came the acquisition, building and rebuilding of Insole Court. The family died out in the 1930's, and today's story ended with the acquisition of the estate by Cardiff City Council. John's presentation was entertaining and full of detail; we look forward to Part 2 of the story of the house at a later date.
