Unfortunately, the events on the field were cancelled the day before. The weather forecast for Sunday was rain and thunderstorms, so a number of people pulled out over concerns of getting stuck on a wet grass field, so the organisers took the difficult decision to cancel. As it turned out the weather was not that bad, but that is our capricious weather for you.
However the Horticultural and Craft event, being indoors, was well supported, with even more entries than last year. The cream teas were very welcome - as was vouched by some of our members who gave them a try!
President Mike presented the Stonehouse Rotary trophy to the winner, Margaret Fredrick, apparently a near neighbour of his, as it turned out. She won for her interpretation of a 'Flower arrangement depicting the wartime theme, keep the home fires burning'. She did very well, also winning the Mayor's Trophy, presented by Cllr Theresa Watt.
Her colourful display of red and scarlet flowers depicted as flames rising from a darker base, did indeed suggest a robust fire. See the main picture.
Jan Thomas of Boatmobility was at the Jolly evant had been planned to support thier cause, and organiser Simon Lewis indicated that, in spite of the weather, there should be some reasonable funds available from the event to assist them. He particularlyu thanked the folks of Stonehouse for their steady support.
Simon can chalk up another successful event, which had it not been for the weather forecast, would have been bigger and better than last year.
He thanked Rotarian Bryan for the photos taken at the event, and the loan of the PA equipment.
