The Big Swim

Wrington Vale Rotary Club is introducing an exciting new local annual community event - a Swimathon. The Big Swim will be held this year in the Kings Fitness Leisure Centre swimming pool, in Cheddar, on Saturday 10th November. This will not only be great fun for all those taking part but will also raise much needed money for these really worthwhile charities:

The Childrens Hospice (South West) and the Shiva Trust in Nepal

together with other charities supported by Rotary

  • Overview
    • We are recruiting as many teams of six swimmers as possible, of all ages and abilities, from Schools, Clubs, Organisations and anyone who just enjoys an invigorating swim. The Big Swim will take the form of 45 minute relays. Although not overly competitive we will be recongnising notable achievements with awards and prizes. Teams will pay a small registration fee and each swimmer will then be asked to raise charity sponsorship

  • How it Works
    • The event will be held at Kings Fitness and Leisure Pool, Station Road, Cheddar, BS27 3AH, on the afternoon of Saturday 10th November 2018
    • Teams should normally consist of six swimmers, of all ages and abilities, from schools, clubs, organisations and anyone who wishes to get a team together to take part. It may be possible to make arrangements for teams with fewer swimmers, if necessary and advised in advance
    • Each Team should nominate a Team Leader.  The Team Leader may be a swimmer or an additional non-swimming team manager
    • Each swimmer will usually swim two lengths of the 25 metre pool before handing over to the next member of the team on a continuous basis for 45 minutes
    • As this event is a repetitive relay it is important that all team members are able to swim a minimum of 25 metres, unaided, repeatedly. If swimmers are happier not to swim the two lengths (50 metres), without a break, the organisers should be advised in advance. Children 7 years old and under may use flippers
    • Teams will be allocated a start time in advance
    • The registration fee of £10.00 is to be paid at time of entry
    • Each swimmer is asked to raise sponsorship for the charities noted above
    • Completed registration forms should be returned to the address noted on the form by post or email as soon as possible but not later than Friday 2nd November
    • Sponsorship Forms, On-Line Sponsorship arrangements, Start Time, and other details will be issued on receipt of registration
