Rotary Club of Senlac Raids Eastbourne Sovereign Harbour

On Tuesday 26th November, a very wet evening, some thirteen Senlac Rotarians made the damp journey to Eastbourne’s Sovereign Harbour to join the Sovereign Harbour Club for their meeting at the 4Seasons Brasserie.
Following a one course meal business started with a silence to remember our late Rotarian Stuart Earl. Sovereign Harbour’s President Rhona Graham welcomed Senlac and invited Senlac’s President Dave Miles to introduce the club. Dave gave a resume of the main fund raising activities undertaken by the club and Chris Folley spoke about the Yellowmen.
Sovereign Harbour discuss business each week and produce minutes if each meeting. Senlac learned of the many fund raising activities undertaken which together raise around £30,000 a year. A cheque was handed to Alan Breeze of the Eastbourne Citizen’s Advice Bureau to help with the charity’s work; in his reply Alan spoke of the vital role of Bureau and the millions of pounds it had put into the hands of local people as a result of intervention in, mainly, benefit matters. He explained the all Bureaux were independent charities and needed to raise money on top of any local authority grant.
The evening was rounded off by a brief and humorous explanation by Hilary Lewis of the role of Sergeant at Arms during which she managed to fine everyone present for various “offences”
