Interact Club Cheese, Wine and Quiz night with entertainment. Llantwit Major Town Hall.

Last week members of the Llantwit Major Interact Club held a special Charity Cheese and Wine Night at the town hall.  The club is based on the sixth form (years twelve and thirteen) members of the town’s Comprehensive School.  The successful club was started some years ago with the help of staff members and the Rotary Club of Llantwit Major during which time it has grown in strength now having  approximately forty members.  It aims to foster fellowship, service and improve international understanding. The event was well supported by family members, friends and Rotarians.  The students provided the refreshments and also staged a programme of impressive entertainment.

Vicky White, Interact President, welcomed guests and said what three charities the club had chosen to support this year. The local charity was Welsh Hearts which was set-up by Sharon Owen after she had suddenly been diagnosed with a heart murmur and aims to help patients with a similar problem.  The national charity chosen was Together which was formed in 1879 and exists to help people with mental health issues to live supported lives in the community.  The third was the international charity, Lupus Trust based at Guy’s Hospital for people with issues surrounding their immune system.

Musical entertainment followed from Sophie Moore, Annalise and Bethan Scholes and from Jack Wilkinson and Sanjong Sambahangphe. The evening concluded with a quiz and raffle. At the end Interact treasurer Erin Dalton was able to announce that the event had raised a staggering £594 for the selected charities. Rotary President Gareth Rees said the whole town should be proud of these enterprising young people.
