World Polio Day 24th October 2018

World Polio Day

Rotary has spearheaded the campaign to eradicate polio around the world for over 30 years. Since Rotary pledged to rid the world of polio, the number of global cases has fallen by 99.99% and the number of endemic countries dropping from 125 to just 3. With just 22 cases of polio worldwide in 2017, Rotary and our partners are on the brink of eradicating just the second human disease in history.
24thOctober 2018 is World Polio Day, where we unite with volunteers around the world to celebrate being on the brink of eradicating polio forever.
The Rotary Club of Kirkcudbright was in at the start and has been supporting Rotary's End Polio Now campaign since 1988. In the short period alone from 2014 until now our Club has raised over $11,000.
In recent years our Club has organised many events ranging from a Charity Concert and Quiz, Tree and Crocus Planting, and Purple Pinky through the Primary Schools in our area. Again next year in conjunction with Kirkcudbright Academy we will be organising another Charity Concert, currently scheduled for 21stMarch 2019.
This is something Rotary cannot do alone, and is why we are so grateful to have such tremendous support from our local Businesses, Schools, Residents and visitors alike.

Thank You
