Bobby Cairns: Marion Short - Campaign for Borders Rail

Thu, Jan 31st 2019 at 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Weekly meeting with guest speaker

The President welcomed members and our guest speaker Marion Short to the meeting. After the meal Marion gave us up to date information regarding the work of the Borders Railway Action Committee. In spite of the success of the initial part of the railway from Edinburgh to Tweedbank, there was little progress in a decision to finish the line through to Carlisle. Marion who is the Vice Chair of the Committee has met with politicians from Westminster and Holyrood who seem to be impressed with the railway’s performance so far but as yet have not commissioned a feasibility survey regarding the route and need for the rest of the line to be completed.

After the vote of thanks the President reminded members of the Quiz taking place on the 16th February in the Bridge Function Rooms – food and raffle prizes needed! She also reminded members that voting in the Young Photographer Competition in the Sainsbury Supermarket would close shortly and votes would be counted next week.
