Jan 2019 DG David Simpson to speak

Today we welcomed our District Governor D1080 David Simpson who gave us a District wide perspective. And we welcomed Rtn Hugh &b Bill from Cambridge-Sawston.

He started by presenting this years Community Citizens Award to Mike Smith - the Club had made the nomination and were delighted to find out that Mike had won !  Well Done Mike.

He congratulated the Club on the balance, breadth and variety of its projects and its open attitude to ideas. He saw our higher than District levels of female members and our new satellite Group as evidence of our willingness to embrace new concepts.

He has given his time and energy to our Parking this year and hopes to support us at the Charity Cheque Night and at our WheelPower Day of Disabled Sport.  

He reminded us that the District Team are there to help us in anything we care to embark on and encouraged us to tap into that resource often.  He reminded us that the idea of sharing knowledge and experience across the District network relied on updating the team frequently, which some clubs found difficult.

In answering several questions he reminded us that the eradicate Polio effort is still going.  The good news is that there were only 25 cases in the world last year BUT if we were to stop the vaccination program it would only be 10 years before we saw 200,000 cases per year ! WE ARE SO CLOSE !
