This evening we held our
22nd Annual Charter Dinner, the anniversary of the formation of the club
in 1997.
Our
guest speaker was Laura Curtis, who gave us a lively talk, well
documented in video and sound, about how she and her husband wrote the
song "The Hero" to mark the anniversary of the end of World War 1, and
created a DVD featuring contributions from many celebrities from around
the world, which is being sold to support the charity "Help for
Heroes". President Michael Sant, who presided over the evening,
presented Laura with a cheque for the charity.
This is an occasion when we honour individuals who have shown
their dedication to Rotary's motto of "Service above Self" by awarding a
Paul Harris Fellowship, an award set up in memory of Rotary's founder,
and this year we were pleased to honour club member Mark Worwood, who
has served the club in a multitude of ways. The award was presented by
one of this year's joint Presidents, Michael Brooke.
