President Brian presents a cheque to representatives from the London Air Ambulance, who joined members for lunch and afterwards gave an interesting talk about the work of the LAA., The funds were raised at the Swimalong held in Ocober 2021, organised by Rtn. Peter Braithwaite who unfortunately was unable to attend the prentation.

Stuart Talbot (Langley Park Rotary Club), Peter White (Beckenham Rotary Club) and John Bruce (Bromley Rotary Club) present their cheque to Katie Fielder from Demelza Hospice Care.

Three local Rotary Clubs (Bromley, Beckenham and Langley Park) have teamed up to raise £4770 to purchase five anti-bacterial dispenser guns for Demelza Hospice Care for Children.

The ‘guns’, which will be for both of Demelza’s  childrens hospices at Sittingbourne and Eltham, will provide improved anti-bacterial protection, the elimination of environmentally unfriendly anti-bacterial wipes and a significant cost saving. 

The funding, which included maximum Rotary Foundation District grants, covers both the cost of the guns and a supply of anti-bacterial fluid. It was made possible by the individual clubs fund-raising activities over Christmas, including the highly popular Sleigh collections.

The “guns” positively charge the disinfectant, making it cling to surfaces (underside of table tops, chairs, monitors, walls, etc.) – thus making deep cleaning more effective, as well as saving time and being more cost effective. 

The “guns” are used globally in hospitals and clinical care premises. They are robust and require only minimal maintenance and servicing, and are the modern solution for bacterial protection from surfaces – but require considerable capital investment. 

The two Hospices involved - Sittingbourne and Eltham will be able to discontinue using over 300,000 anti-bacterial wipes per annum which have been disposed to landfill.

The North West Area of our Rotary District comprises eight local clubs, who jointly sponsor young musicians in the borough in this competition. The young musicians play a variety of different instruments and compete in a series of heats through to an eventual six finalists.  

Rotarians Ken and Dinah attended the finals evening, where the winner was presented with the Norman Trotman Trophy. Each of the finalists was worthy of an accolade, but the eventual winner was judged to be a cellist who gave a masterful but relaxed performance. 

This thoroughly enjoyable evening proved to be a celebration of music excellence.

Past President Tony and Geoff presented a cheque for £1,500.00 to the Freddie Farmer Foundation (main picture). 

The donation will go towards a bedsit they are building to enable parents and disabled children to stay at the centre rather than hotels. 

Typically a course of physio takes two weeks so a stay on site will reduce stress and travel and be cheaper than hotel accommodation.

We are proud to support the Foundation and to help fund a LokoHelp electromechanical gait trainer that was developed to relieve therapist's labour intensive task of guiding the patients legs during locomotion therapy. Locomotion therapy using the LokiHelp not only assist therapist, but also improves gait symmetry and the quality of therapy for the patient.

Over recent years their work has expanded significantly and they now look after some 250 families, so our club support is much needed. CASPA's success is highlighted by the children who go on to further education or find work; one has just qualified as a paramedic.

Their rented premises is now full and there is a long waiting list for struggling families who want help.
