This morning we welcomed Dan Clarke, who is studying for his A
levels at Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Plasmawr. Last year David went on a visit
to Patagonia organised by the Urdd, and the club gave him a small
contribution towards the cost. He came to breakfast to tell us about
his experiences.
After giving a short history on the
settlement of Patagonia by the Welsh in the 1860's which was inspired by
an urge to preserve the purity of the Welsh language, he gave a lively
talk about the Welsh speaking communities there which the group visited,
and many other facts about Patagonia, including the Red Dragon Rugby
Club, Eisteddfodau and penguins. 45,000 of the population are of Welsh
ancestry, of whom 5,000 are Welsh speaking.
