Rotary Youth Leadership Awards

A professionally run development course for the leaders of tomorrow. Attended by those pupils in 6th form and supported by Rotary members.

2023

This year we sponsored one student from Brighouse who attends Trinity Sixth Form Academy in Halifax.

For many years our club has been delighted to select and fund two awardee places on the RYLA leadership courses. These have been sixth form students from Brighouse High School and Lightcliffe Academy

The courses are professionally run with the assistance of Rotary staff and a Rotary Mentor for each team for the purpose of developing leadership qualities in our young people.

Held at Hebden Hey, Hebden Bridge, each year the District accommodates 80 awardees at the end of July.

The awardees give a short presentation to the club about their experiences after which they become true RYLArians. This is always an enjoyable evening.

The district 1040 RYLA course is acknowledged to be the best leadership development course for young people in the UK. It uses experiential learning through outdoor and indoor activities, with feedback from the staff, mentors and most importantly fellow team members providing an unparalleled environment in which to safely learn and practice leadership skills which develop confidence and will enhance any CV. The awardees rapidly make friends with 40 complete strangers and many have described their RYLA week as the “best week of my life so far”.
