Scottish Night 24th January 2019
The Club held their Scottish Night combined with the presentation of a Community Service Award to Jean McMillan the volunteer Librarian/ Archivist at Bute Museum.
The Club enjoyed an excellent meal at Kingarth Hotel where the haggis was piped in by Jojo Kane and addressed by Dan Edgar. The Toast to Scotland was proposed by Donald Kinnear in a humerous address. Layla Templeton sang three scottish songs in her own arrangement. The evening concluded with community singing led by Meg Young.
President Jim Findlay introduced the Community Service Award to Jean explaining that the Club had unanimously supported the proposal. Jean, the volunteer Librarian/Archivist at Bute Museum, is well known in the community for the assistance and service provided through the museum.
In commemoration of the end of the First World War Jean created a biography of every man commemorated on the island's war memorials producing a record for future use in family history research. Many present have had the opportunity to hear Jean present her work at various clubs and societies and be humbled by the stories of these men.
