Polio Eradication

Rotary's key humanitarian project to rid the world of polio.

While Polio cases continue to fall and exist in only a small number of counties, there is still lots of effort required to finally eradicate this disease.

Updates can be found on this dedicated website: www.endpolio.org

Rotary's key humanitarian project is to rid the world of polio. They spearheaded the campaign at a time when there were more than 1000 cases a day in 125 countries - today the number of cases is down by 99.9%.

Rotarary helps pay for immunisations and members of the club have had the opportunity to visit and help  immunise those at risk. A "Purple Pinky" (a purple stamp on a childs little finger) is given to identifiy those who have had the vaccination.

We have planted purple Crocus blubs  all around the Brighouse area  to reflect the 'purple pinky'.
