Clive Brain from M shed Bristol, was our guest speaker,
The M shed opened in 2011 and was turned from an old dockside shed to a gleaming exhibition centre. It tells the story of Bristol and its unique place in the world.
Clive gave a interesting insight into the boats working the harbour in days gone by, in particular the Fire boat, Pyronaut 1934, on which Clive ended up as skipper. He was also a serving member of the Bristol Fire Brigade. The vessel was involved in fighting many fires in the area including World war 2.
Another favourite for visitors is the Harbourside railway with a 1937 steam engine, "Hanbury" providing trips to the S.S. Great Britain .
The M shed is funded in part by the City Council and grants, but also by visitors .
Clive encouraged us all to pay a visit which as a Club we intend to do.
