For

The Bert Dawson Quaich

Both St Andrews Rotary Clubs – the Rotary Club of Kilrymont St Andrews and the Rotary Club of St Andrews – came together for the annual opportunity to fight it out for the Bert Dawson Quaich.

The trophy is in memory of the late Bert Dawson, who was a stalwart member of the original St Andrews Rotary Club then went on to be one of the instigators of the new Kilrymont Club.

However, some of the members - possibly less well-educated in the vagaries of Scottish pronunciation - believed the two clubs were competing for the “Bert Dawson Quiche”. Which would have been a tasty trophy indeed.

So much so that Colin Brown, St Andrews captain for the evening, added a cheese and onion quiche to the prize presentation ceremony.

Eight members from each club took part in the four competitions of indoor bowls, putting, bagatelle and quoits in the New Golf Club.

The teams were;

St Andrews – Colin Brown, Dr Bangarpet Krishnaswam, Sylvia Donaldson, Kirsty Hastie, Peter Davidson, Rob Dougan, John Christie and Alan Constable.

Kilrymont – Wilda McKinnon, Brian Gray, Grace Morris, Isobel Clifford, John Spittal, Forbes Lockhart, Iain MacKinnon and Will Aitken.

In a closely-fought but very friendly competition, Kilrymont were the winners of the Quaich – and the quiche.
