Penrith Rotary Club and The Cumberland and Westmoreland Herald Young Journalist competition reached new heights in its second year. Over 70 entries were received from local Grade 5 and 6 students. After much deliberation by the Herald News Editor, Emily Atherton and Nick Capron, President of Penrith Rotary Club awards were presented recently to students. The standard of entries was extremely high and as Emily said ‘ The quality of entries this year was fantastic, with students producing , well written articles on a broad range of topics’
To ensure the students realise they are writing for a ‘real’ audience a cross section of the winning entries was printed in the Herald. The overall winner was Ella Ridley of North Lakes School who received a silver salvar, a certificate and £40 of Amazon Vouchers , for her article on the Schools visit to see Hairspray at Penrith Grammar School. Entries from St Catherine’s School and Orton primary school were also Highly Commended.
The competition will be running for the third year in November.
