Primary Schools Quiz 2019

Wed, Mar 6th 2019 at 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

The local heat of the Rotary Primary Schools Quiz took place this week at Greyfriars RC Primary School, St Andrews.

Throughout the country more than 500 schools will participate in this annual event and around 80 Rotary Clubs support it year after year.

Five local schools competed once again for two trophies – Canongate, Kingsbarns, Lawhead, St Leonards and the current champions on their home patch, Greyfriars.

After ten rounds of questions, St Leonards this year emerged as the champions, and received the winners’ plate from John Spittal, President of the Rotary Club of Kilrymont St Andrews. Runners-up by a slim margin of three points were Lawhead, who were presented with a quaich.

Rotarians from both the Kilrymont Club and the Rotary Club of St Andrews hosted the event, acting as quizmaster, adjudicators, scorers and assistants.

Many teachers and parents from the participant schools were in the audience, and – like the Rotarians – were impressed by and proud of the depth of knowledge demonstrated by the 20 youngsters taking part.

As both local Rotary clubs support this event, St Leonards and Lawhead will go forward to compete in the Area Final. This will be held in St Andrews in the Town Hall on Monday March 25.

Feel free to attend and enjoy the commitment demonstrated by local primary schoolchildren.
