There was standing room only in St Andrews Town Hall on Monday evening when parents, family and friends and teachers from Fife and Tayside enjoyed the Area Final of the Rotary Primary Schools Quiz 2019.

The Quiz was contested by pupils from nine schools who were sponsored by Rotary Clubs in their area.

The teams were (Rotary sponsor club in brackets);

Anstruther Primary School (Anstruther), Dairsie Primary School (Cupar), Eastern Primary School (Broughty Ferry), High School of Dundee Junior School (Dundee), Ladybank Primary School (Howe of Fife), Lawhead Primary School (St Andrews), Newport Primary School (North Fife), St Leonards Junior School (Kilrymont St Andrews), Tayview Primary School (Claverhouse Dundee).

All the teams displayed a high level of knowledge in completing a wide variety of subject matters, including literature, mathematics, nature and geography, which resulted in a very close contest throughout.

At the close of play Newport Primary School took the honours, edging the High School of Dundee Junior School into second place by the narrowest of margins.

The winners were presented with a salver trophy by visiting Rotary Club District Governor Ian Dow.

Newport and Dundee High will now go forward to the District finals to be held in Aberdeen in May.

In conclusion, John Spittal, President of the organising and host club the Rotary Club of Kilrymont St Andrews, praised the efforts of all the school children involved. He also thanked the many in the audience who had made donations to charity funding and to St Andrews business, Zest, who provided free of charge paper cups for the event’s cake and drinks stall.
