Rotary President's Night 2019

A celebration of Rtn. Matt Martens Presidential year.

The Queen's Hotel once again played host to the annual President's Dinner.

Approaching fifty Rotarians and their guests including Mayor of Penzance Cllr. Dick Cliffe and the Mayoress Glenis Cliffe enjoyed a three course meal followed by speeches from Club President Matt Martens and his principal guest Dr. Robin Lenman, an academic with a specialism in German cultural history.

Rotary District Governor Graham Carey had the honour of presenting two Paul Harris Fellowships.

Rtn. Graham Carter was the recipient of one due to his outstanding contribution to the work of Penzance Rotary Club and for his work within the community.

Peter Williams was the recipient of the second Paul Harris Fellowship, the first non-Rotarian to receive the award from The Rotary Club of Penzance. Following the death of his young daughter, Peter has raised over £50,000 for The Brain Tumour Charity, largely through his 'Little Pink Bike' sponsored cycle ride from Bristol to Land's End.

The evening was concluded with music from members of the Heineken Ensemble -  Anthony White presented a brief history of the oboe, flute and recorder before giving renditions of German Baroque compositions by Schickhardt, Telmann and Handel accompanied by Pippa Drummond playing harpsichord.
