Speaker: Mick Seed, Out Reach Worker - Scottish War Blinded

Mick joined Scottish War Blinded on 30 July 2018. He says that meeting so many amazing characters and being able to support them in various ways to increase their independence and enhance their quality of life is one of the most enjoyable aspects of the role…..….with the added bonus of driving around a beautiful area!

Scottish War Blinded support veterans throughout Scotland no matter what the cause of a veterans’ sight loss, or when they developed sight loss. 

They support veterans of the regular Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Navy, those who undertook National Service, those who have served in the Reserves or TA and those who served in the Merchant Navy (if under the command of the Royal Navy). 

They can help in many different ways and membership is free.

 

Mick has moved around England and Scotland during the course of his career for different jobs which have included –

• Further Education lecturing (Peterborough) and Adult Education tutoring (Carlisle);

• Sport, Leisure and Community Development roles with various local authorities (both sides of the border – Carlisle, Banff and Buchan, Alnwick and Aberdeenshire);

• Students’ Association Manager at Aberdeen University;

• Foster Carer along with his wife supporting 18 different young people over a 6 year period;

• County Responder for care organisation working throughout Cumbria;

• My Guide Manager for Guide Dogs initially based at their offices in Reading (covering 5 counties) and then Edinburgh (covering the East of Scotland) working with service users with sight loss and volunteers.

• Outreach Worker for Scottish War Blinded covering Dumfries and Galloway, South Ayrshire and part of East Ayrshire.

Rotary supports KidsOut "the fun & happiness charity" to take more than 25,000 disadvantaged children across the UK on a National Day Out in June each year as well as a Festive Fun Day in December.
