Bwengu Project, Malawi - Sam and Rob Melia

A tremendous overseas project.

We had a very interesting couple, Rob and Sam Melia, come to the Coventry North Rotary Club meeting on Tuesday 9th April 2019, and gave an illustrated talk about The Bwengu Projects in Malawi.  This is a non profit organisation, set up by Sue and Tony Melia from Rugby.  Malawi is the fourth poorest country in the World, with 1 in 10 suffering from HIV/AIDS.  Thanks to fund raising, a number of schools in north Malawi have been improved with new classrooms, toilet blocks, and projected ‘text books’ on to walls, from home made kits, using a car battery and a 15inch solar panel, with a small projector.  This works very well as illustrated in the photograph. Past President Steve Gage hosted the speakers and President John Green thanked the couple for the talk, presenting  them with a cheque and wishing the charity every success in the future. Photographs were taken by Rotarian Brian Sharp.
