Trip to Veolia Recycling Plant

On the 16th April a party of 10 Rotarians and 2 spouses visited our local Veolia Recycling plant in Mansfield Nottinghamshire which was as a result of a talk by a representative from the company on a normal club meeting night last year.
On arrival we had simple Health and Safety talk and a fun test followed by a game which comprised of a large box of ‘Rubbish’ which we had to sort into Recycling ,Non Recycling ,Charity Shop Donation and Compost . In the main we all did quite well but everyone was eager to learn and improve our recycling skills to help to protect and enhance our environment.
We then all donned hard hats, high viz jackets and ear protectors/headsets and made our way for a guided tour around the recycling plant which was amazing but at the same time quite shocking as much of what was on view was quite obviously waste and should never have found its way to a recycling plant such as clothing and endless lengths of plastic wrap.
Mounds of recyclable items such as bottles are cardboard were soon sorted and dispatched into bundles in preparation for their journey into becoming a new recycled product .
Educating the public is key to improving our recycling skills and in turn help to save our planet.
Everyone agreed it was a great night
