HUGE CROWDS GATHERS FOR TREE OF LIGHTS

At least 1000 people gathered in ideal weather conditions last Sunday on the Cayley Promenade for the Tree of Lights Switch on Ceremony for the 21st. time.  They saw the tree come to life with brand new lights shining brighter than ever.
The lights were switched on by the Mayor of Colwyn, Cllr. Neil Bastow while participants were able to sing carols supported by the Beulah Brass and Cor Meibion Colwyn.  Every year since 1999, the tree has been decorated with lights provided by the Rotary Club of Rhos on Sea.  This year, Rotarians express their gratitude to the Rhyl Flats Windfarm Community Fund, The Conwy Voluntary Services Council, Dwr Cymru and Colwyn Town Council for their sponsorship for the new LED low carbon lights. Representatives from St. David's Hospice which the Tree of Lights supports were also present along with the Rotary District Governor, Bob Maskall.    So far the Tree of Lights has raised just over £263,000 for St. David's Hospice and a fantastic £1,454 was collected during the ceremony .  Rotary President James Briggs who conducted the Ceremony said,
"The number of people present is testimony to the popularity of this event, starting Christmas each year. It is a special event in the Hospice and Rotary calendar. We have all lost someone close and are pleased to be able to give the opportunity for people to commemorate and remember loved ones and at the same time supporting such a wonderful good local cause. A big thank you to all and for the sponsorship we have had to carry on this for years to come."    Rev. Jane Allen, Chaplain of St. David's Hospice gave the final blessing.
The tree will continue to shine throughout December and donations can continue to be made using this coupon or St. David's Hospice website.
