A summary of our activities from January to March

New Year

The New Year began with a very enjoyable Sunday lunch at the Waltham Windmill Golf Club followed by an afternoon of social bridge all organised by John Sutcliffe.  This is now a regular and popular annual event with a lot of members and guests participating.

Wine Tasting

Our fifth Wednesday evening meeting in January held at Hall Farm was a dinner and a well attended wine tasting when we were entertained by James Long of Corney & Barrow.  He has long been a favourite raconteur in Lincolnshire and East Anglia and he did not disappoint.  The wines were of good quality and the way he conducted the evening was most humorous.

Docks Beers

In early February Philip Lumley organised a visit to member Will Douglas' new Docks Brewery in King Edward Street sited appropriately in an old church now deconsecrated originally built in Victorian times to preach against the evils of alcohol!

Litter Picks

March saw us supporting Grimsby in Bloom with a litter pick by the river Freshney and then the Civic Society with a similar session near Riby Square.

Charity Donations

The club also voted to support three local charities by donating the £1800 raised by the Christmas Supermarket collections to the Shalom Youth Centre, the Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance and the Macmillan Cancer Support Group.

The weekly meetings continue to be well attended and I would like to say thank you for all the support given to me by members which makes the job of President easier than you may realise.

With my good wishes to you all.

Chris Oldridge.
