Responding to Emergencies

The Gloucestershire Emergency Support Team (GEST) scheme has been running for over 20 years. Over that period the county council’s civil protection team, which we work with, has shrunk considerably and there have been changes within some of our partner organisations. We’re now looking to address this and reinvigorate the scheme.

One of the things we intend to do is to increase the number of training opportunities for volunteers and also involve anyone who is interested in exercises with the council teams and the emergency services. Key to this is the establishment of a training group.

We’ll also be improving how we communicate and are putting together a long-term plan to increase the number of volunteers we have.
