When Jerry Beaulier stood up to speak we all expected to hear about the progress of Beach Wheelchairs but we were surprised to hear the topic of his speech was ”Best Duck Tape Stories”
Jerry was a pilot in the USA and he took us first to NASA to hear about the lunar Apollo Flight to the moon on 7 December 1972. Dust samples had to be collected but the feet of the vehicle each with its fender had become damaged and they thought they couldn’t repair it. Unbelievably that’s where duck tape came into the picture. A repair was satisfactorily carried out.
Our next story took us to North Alaska where an aeroplane had landed in a remote spot. Brown bears lived close by and their curiosity took them all over the plane. These bears can reach 200 lbs in weight and 10ft in height and as they are usually hungry and annoyed the aeroplane became their plaything. We could not believe the pictures of the damage inflicted on the plane as the bears climbed all over causing maximum damage. The pilot called up for supplies of a sheet of plastic, some new tyres and duck tape essential to be able to take off and return to base once more.
Jerry completed his fascinating talk by advising us all never to leave home without Duck Tape.
