Speaker - Una Race, The Dogs Trust
Raffle - Gordon Wood
Reception - Gerald Smith / Sybille Handley-Schachler

On Thursday 13th February, members and guests of the Rotary Club of South Queensferry enjoyed a talk by Una Race of The Dogs Trust. Founded in 1891, The Dogs Trust is the largest dog welfare charity in the UK. Its mission is to bring about the day when all dogs can enjoy a happy life free from the threat of destruction. In a well-illustrated presentation, Una explained that dogs come to the trust for various reasons - for example if the dogs have been found stray or abandoned or if their owners are unable to cope because of age or illness. There are 21 centres all over the UK housing dogs waiting for a new home. In Scotland, the centres are in Glasgow and at West Calder near Edinburgh. Currently over 800 dogs are available across the UK. Those interested in offering a dog a home should contact The Dogs Trust on line where details are available or visit their nearest centre. The Dogs Trust also runs a fostering scheme where people volunteer to look after dogs until a permanent home for them is found, or offer temporary care for the dogs of families fleeing domestic abuse.

Una's interesting talk prompted many questions from the floor. She was introduced by Gerald Smith and the vote of thanks was proposed by Sybille Handley-Schachler.
