On Thursday 18th June, the Rotary Club of South Queensferry held its Annual Assembly through the medium of Zoom. After welcoming Assistant District Governor Ken Robertson from Cumbernauld, who joined the meeting to represent District 1020, President Jim McCulloch introduced President Elect Irene Brownless who will lead the club for Rotary Year 2020-21. Irene gave a PowerPoint presentation illustrating the programmes proposed by the various club committees. She then outlined her ambitions for a presidential year which will present, at least initially, many challenges owing to the continuing Covid -19 pandemic and its probable aftermath. Irene's emphasis this year will be on the community. The club is discussing what community activities will be possible under the current restrictions. It is unlikely that the club will regain its original meeting format for a considerable time, if ever. Plans for tailoring meetings and activities to cope with possible future restrictions are now in place and Irene hoped to carry out as full a programme as the situation allowed.

ADG Ken Robertson said that one of the main features of club activities should be fun and he was sure this applied very much in Queensferry. District 1020 would offer advice and assistance to clubs re-establishing themselves after such a long period of members being apart .

In summing up his impression of the club's activities during the crisis, ADG Ken congratulated President Jim and the members for running a dynamic series of meetings through Zoom, attracting many excellent speakers. The two trans-Atlantic link-ups were an excellent initiative attracting Rotary members world wide to join the virtual meetings. They typified South Queensferry's place as one of the most vibrant and successful clubs in the district. He was sure this enthusiasm would be sustained during Irene's period in office. Impact, reach, engagement and adaptability  are watchwords of Rotary. These were amply borne out by the club.
