We were at the Chelmsford Rugby Club (see photograph) for today’s business meeting, chaired by President Francis. The minutes of the previous business meeting were approved.
In presenting the accounts our Treasurer, Bob Booker, reported that the net proceeds of £1,275.11 from running Santa’s Grotto at the Frost Fair had been paid to the relevant charity, Kids Inspire. The Christmas Collections had raised £1,115.22, which was £60 higher than last year even though we had collected at fewer places.
Past President Anne Moriaty, reporting on behalf of the Membership Committee, mentioned that it was hoped to give the Chelmsford Star Co-operative Society a cheque for the share of the Christmas collections intended for their chosen charity at the Rotary Showcase to be held on 21 May.
President Francis mentioned the Quiz Night to be held on 2 May in support of Families InFocus and said we had been invited to take part in the “RoxFest” to be held in Roxwell on 6 June.
The Foundation & International Committee reported that £5,300 had been paid to the Better Lives Foundation in anticipation of a District Grant. The Foundation will be providing the speaker at our forthcoming International Evening.
Philip Goodman, the Chair of the Community & Vocational Committee, thanked all those who had helped with the Christmas Collections and the Senior Guests’ Panto Trip. Letters and cards of appreciation had been received from some of those who had attended the pantomime.
President Francis told us that meetings and venues had been booked for the rest of the Rotary year. It was hoped a more permanent arrangement could be put in place early in the new Rotary year.
