Aug 2019 Girton Memory Cafe - Sunny Holidays

Fri, Aug 2nd 2019 at 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Organiser Richard de Horsey. The Memory Cafe welcomes All. A warm welcome for people with dementia or other problems associated memory loss (and their families / carers). Our 101th event! Theme - Summer Holidays - Sun, Sea & Sand.

Sunshine, buckets & spades.

Today we had a wonderfully sunny day that so fitted with our theme.  We had 5 birthdays to celebrate including our own pianist Alan who shared a nostalgic birthday card received just this morning - all about what was happening in the world in 1954 when he was born eg rationing finally finished completely !

Richard was pleased to present a lovely Cetificate to Ann Lorimer to say a big Thank You for all the regular time and effort that she gives to the cafe.

We were also delighted to welcome Sam Clift who talked us through his early experiences with motorbikes including an ealy rather ambitious holiday with his wife driving across Spain and France without maps ! - no Sat Nav in those days.

We sang a wide variety of songs as usual including some sea shanties and 'We're all going on a Summer Holiday'. We even managed a round of 'Row Row Row the Boat' with spectacular success !

Everyone is Welcome !

Helpers 9am please.

The aim is to evoke old memories that are complete and comfortable through, for example, refreshments in china cups, home made cakes, photos and documents from past years, songs and poems and informal talks.
