We enjoyed a social visit to Acton Scott working farm

We met at Acton Scott for a demonstration of Wheelwright craft, a tour of the farm then lunch in Wistanstow....


An intrepid band of wannabe Rotary farmers set off for Acton Scott Farm museum this morning arriving in time for a quick tour of the shop before the wheelwright demonstration. Elm, oak, iron and almost a week's worth of highly skilful labour goes into the construction of a carriage, or wagon, wheel. 

After the demo we were given a guided tour of the farm buildings and a potted history of the Acton Estate. We also met the shire horses, a rare mule, some black pigs, goats and hundreds of chickens! 

We had hoped for lunch in the cafe but, being half term holidays, there was no room at the inn. So we adjourned instead to a real inn in Wistanstow. An enjoyable day out and thanks to Angie for organising everything!
