On behalf of Tewkesbury Rotary Club, Andrew Turner and Anne Bartholomew recently opened the new Village Green at Marina Court, as part of their Community Hub. This has taken four years of planning to the final opening with generous donations from different organisations including Tewkesbury Rotary Club, WorkAid, the Independence Trust, Gloucestershire Disability Fund, Barnwood Trust, Gloucestershire County Council and Tewkesbury Borough Council. Tools for the Man/Person Shed have been supplied by WorkAid, a charity supported by our Rotary Club for many years, which sends tools, sewing machines and garden equipment to Africa. Marina Court is a retirement development, providing 75 self-contained one- and two- bedroom apartments and bungalows, allowing residents to maintain their independence, dignity and personal choice. Regular social activities include coffee mornings, outings, visiting speakers, exercise classes, a library, quizzes (organised by residents) and Therapy & Well-being Co-ordinator visits. Lesley Gilmour, the Therapy and Well-Being Co-ordinator, employed by Gloucestershire County Council, is the inspiration behind the Village Green while she also offers a range of exercise classes for both the residents and members of the local community. For the summer she would like to organise the following boules activities:
An exhibition match for people to watch
A taster session for interested people from the community to learn the rules and rudiments of play if you have someone who would tutor.
A challenge match between Tewkesbury Rotarians and Tewkesbury U3A Watch this space.
