Speaker from the Haven Project, Jackie Carter:

Every Monday and Wednesday from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm the Haven    Project offers food, help and kindness to people sleeping rough in         Whitstable.     The Project offers warmth, shelter, light snacks and laundry           facilities and has help over thirty people since it began of these seven are      in permanent housing, some are in sheltered accommodation but the rest      are still on the streets and it is hoped to have some severe weather           accommodation for them this winter.     The Project has started a        pushbike scheme as      most homeless have no means of transport.    It began with some donated bicycles and so far five have been restored and            three have been given away.      Several of their ‘guests’ have mental             health problems and the project works closely with the Forward Trust          and Porchlight to help them. The local food bank which used to provide            food has just pulled out but it is hoped that the project will be able to take   part in the unsold food programme run by Morrisons of Herne Bay.     The             project could not manage without over twenty volunteers and it relies           on donations of food, clothing, rucksacks and sleeping bags so please help      if you can.

Meal Steward:

Lesley is away until the end of September and Pat is standing in as meal         steward. If you are unable to make a meeting for the next few weeks,           please contact Pat on (Mob: 0787 9370687:   Email:             patmcfarlane@live.co.uk)

End Polio Now:

There has been some great news on the elimination of polio this week as      there has not been a case in Africa for nearly three years.      This has been   widely reported in the media but there has been no mention of the role of          Rotary.  The end polio stickers should be available next week when David     M. will also have some Eradicate Polio badges on offer.

Caption Competition:

There is still time to have a go as this was deferred to next week.

Basketry Workshops:

Pat has offered to run basketry workshops for interested members.    If         you would like to join in there will be a form in the folder next week.

Jean is almost out of raffle prizes and would be very grateful for some           more.
