Minutes of the Meeting

Maureen Rooney:

            Maureen’s husband, Ted, is out of hospital but still poorly and she will not    be back for a few more weeks.

Meal Steward:

            Just a reminder that Lesley is away until the end of September and Pat is       standing in as meal steward. If you are unable to make a meeting for the      next few weeks, please contact Pat on (Mob: 0787 9370687:   Email:      patmcfarlane@live.co.uk) 

Caption Competition:

            The anxiously awaited result of the caption competition was deferred for      another week so please have a go.

Barn Dance:

            As the recent Barn Dance had been a great success, Sue proposed that it       be repeated next year and this was agreed with a provisional date of May        30th 2020.

Raffle Prizes:

            Jean still needs more raffle prizes.

Honey Bears Nursery Donation:

            Honey Bears Nursery is an assessment centre at Kent and Canterbury           Hospital that provides early intervention and support to life-threatened            children up to three years old and RC Canterbury Sunrise has been       seeking support from other local clubs to make a major donation for the       provision of equipment.      The Board proposed a donation of £250.00   and this was agreed.

Bat and Trap Challenge, Friday, August 23rd:

            Nick was thanked for organising a really successful evening.

September 6th to 8th, District Conference:

            The take up for the District Conference on the weekend of September 6th      to 8th has been disappointing despite a very full and interesting programme.     This will be the last time it will be             so near to Chestfiled and          there is still time to sign up.

Friday, September 6th, Club Charity Golf Day:

            Please contact Nick if you would like to go to the meal in the evening.              Good raffle prizes are still needed.

Sunday, September, 8th – Village Litter Pick:

            Don’t forget the Village Litter Pick on Sunday, September 8th meeting at         10.30 am at the play park on Chestfield Road.    This is a great chance for      the Club to show its support for the village.

Saturday, September 14th, Ramsgate Tunnels:

            Spaces are still available for this fascinating visit and Nick needs 15 for          the group visit.      There is a form in the folder so please sign up.

            If Nick does not get the numbers from the Club RC Herne Bay will be invited to take part.     There will be a meal at the Royal Victoria Pavilion          afterwards.   

Sunday, September 15th, Car Parking:

            The next car parking will be on Sunday, September 15th and Godfrey would always be glad more help.

Friday, September 20th, Jenny Samper, Memorial Service:

            Jenny’s Memorial Service will take place at the Cathedral at 2.00 pm on          Friday, September, 20th.     This will be a celebration of the life of a much-    missed member of the Club so hopefully we will be well represented.              There will be a reception in the Lodge afterwards.      Ian has been asked       to give the eulogy for Jenny and he would like to mention her membership           of Rotary.     If you have a story about her that might include please          contact Ian.

September 26th, 27th and 28th, RAFA Wings Appeal:

            For some years the Club has helped the Wings Appeal collection outside        Morrisons at Herne Bay and David Bowley has asked again for our help.

            There are forms in the folder.    Slots need to be filled on Thursday,    September 26th from 11.00 to 13.00 and 15.00 to 17.00.    On Friday       September 27th slots need filling from 09.00 to 11.00 and from 11.00 to          13.00.    All slots are available on Saturday, September 28th.

Thursday, October 3rd, Visit to Whitstable Museum:

            A chance to have a guided tour of the museum with drinks and nibbles.          Sue will invite RC Herne Bay to join us if there is insufficient take up from            the Club.     It has been decided to take a chance with a restaurant   afterwards rather than booking in advance.

Saturday, October 5th, Gardening at the Whit and Tank:

            Please sign up if you can help starting at 9.30 am.

Tuesday, October 15th, Canterbury Escape Room:

            The Club voted for a trip to the Canterbury Escape Room and Godfrey has    booked two rooms for sixteen people on October 15th starting     at 7.00 pm      at a cost of £18.00 per person.   So far the take up has been disappointing        so please sign up.

Tuesday, November 12th, Basketry Workshop:

            Pat will run a basketry workshop for interested members on Tuesday,           November 12th at the Grain Store, Brenley Farm, ME13 9LY when she show how to make some unique and interesting Christmas decorations.               The workshop will run for the whole day at a cost of £50.00 per person        including materials and a donation of 20 per cent to Club charities.     This          will be a fun day so please sign up.

Saturday, November 30th, Invitation from Godfrey and Sharon:

            There has been a great response to the invitation to a fundraising dinner      from Godfrey and Sharon at their home.     The first dinner on Saturday,    November 30th is oversubscribed and Godfrey will organise another      evening.

           

 

 

Raffle:

            Kathy won a bottle of wine and Pat some blackberries.

Visitors and Greetings:

            Kathy brought greetings from President Andrew of RC Whitstable and           Spyros from Dave and Alan of Saffron Waldron.
