Minutes of the Business Meeting

Held on Thursday, January 16th  2020

Board Meeting, Thursday, January 9th:

            The minutes of the Board meeting of Thursday, January 9th have been          circulated.

Australian Bush Fires:

            Anyone wishing to donate to support those whose lives have been      destroyed by the Australian Bush Fires please visit the website of Rotary        Australia World Community Service Ltd., where you can find a list of    Rotary Districts and Clubs that have set up projects and which are ready       and able to accept donations.     

Koala Refuge

            Donations in support of Koala refuge should be sent to David M. who will      make the payment and arrange gift aid for any donations made through            the Club.

Club Procedure

   At the Board meeting it was suggested in discussion that the Club could         consider changing the procedure at breakfast meetings by doing away    with Grace and the closing toast as this apparently has been an      issue with       some clubs.    The Board agreed to put this to the Members who decided    to leave things as they are. 

Meal Steward:

            Lesley will shortly be having a knee replacement and a volunteer is    needed as soon as possible to temporarily replace her as meal steward.

Crocus Button Holes:

            Crocus button holes are now available from Rotary at a cost of £39.00 for     a box of 100.    It was agreed to purchase a box.

Survey of Social Activities:

            Pat is carrying out a survey of members’ ideas for social activities for next    year and would be glad if everyone could let her have their thoughts and            suggestions – on social activities that is.

Car Parking:

            Godfrey is hoping to firm up the dates for the rest of the year soon and         they will be circulated when he has them.

Life Talks:

            The Board would like to restart Life Talks when individual members take      twenty minutes or so to describe their life’s experiences.      Could anyone           who is happy to take part please contact Sue?

Table Tennis Evening:

            A Table Evening has been scheduled for February and Dave C. will     confirm a date with the Chestfield Warriors Table Tennis Club as soon as           possible.

Gardening at the Whitstable and Tankerton Hospital:

            The Friends of the Hospital are happy to let the Club decide on a date in        March and this will be discussed at the next Board meeting.

Saturday, January 25th, Car Parking:

            The next car parking is on Saturday, January 25th.    Godfrey is okay for         help but would always welcome more if anyone can spare the time.

Saturday, February 1st, Fundraising for Australian Bush Fire Relief:

            The East Kent in Oxford Street Whitstable CT5 1DA is organising a      fundraising evening on Saturday, February 1st 2020 when all proceeds   will go in support of those suffering as a result of the devastating fires.

Thursday, February 13th, Guest Breakfast:

            The next Guest Breakfast will be on Thursday, February 13th.     Please           bring along a guest if you can.

Tuesday, February 18th, Meeting to Discuss Satellite Club:

            There will be a dinner meeting of local Clubs at the Marine Hotel on   Tuesday, February 18th at 6.15 for 6.30 pm.     There is a form in the folder         and numbers are needed by the end of January so please sign up soon.

Thursday, February 20th, Evening Meal:

            There will be an evening meal at the Golf Club on Thursday, February 20th    when the speaker will be Peter Warr, a founder member of the Club, who             will be talking about the work of Team Tanzania; details are in the folder.       This will be a regular meeting of the Club and everyone is expected to be             there unless apologies are sent to the Meal Steward as usual.    

Friday, February 28th, Ten-pin Bowling with Meal at Mucini’s:

            The next ten-pin bowling will be on Friday, February 28th .   There is a           form in the folder so please sign up.      Meet at the Bowling Alley, Tower        Parade, Whitstable, CT5 2BJ at 6.00 pm for 6.30 pm.     A  meal afterwards   has been organised at Mucini’s and to save time on the evening please let      Godfrey have    menu choices as soon as possible; a menu has been       circulated.

Friday, March 20th, Walk4Water:

            Walk4Water will take place at the University Sports Centre on Friday,             March 20th.   David M. is still waiting on confirmation on the project to be             supported.       Volunteers are needed to make up the number of marshals       and if you can help and are not already signed up please contact David M.                Seven schools have signed up with            about 1,500 children altogether taking      part 140 of whom are expected at the University.   Hilary very kindly          agreed to organize a lunch afterwards at a local pub;probably the Royal          Oak in Blean.

Thursday April 2nd, Feel Good Evening in Support of Alzheimers Research:

   The Feel Good Evening previously scheduled for 12th March will now be        held on Thursday, April 2nd at Whitstable School to raise money for                        Alzheimer’s Research. The cost for the evening will be £10.00 per person    and not as minuted in the Board Minutes.

Raffle:

            Kathy and Godfrey both won chocolates and Lesley won some tea.

Master of Alms:

   Nick was in fine form and almost everyone left a little poorer.
