Speaker, Graham Bough, Canterbury Food Bank:
Graham gave us an insight into the history and activities of the Canterbury Food Bank in Canterbury, Whitstable and Herne Bay which have areas of some of the worst deprivation in the country. In the past year the charity distributed over 31,250 meals and fed 2,160 adults and 1,260 children in families with short-term financial crisis.
Maria Blackburn, ADG:
Maria gave a short talk. District is looking for a volunteer ADG for next year. She hopes that a number of members will attend the District Conference in Eastbourne in October. Members were all asked to ensure that their personal details are up-to-date on DMS or to register if they have not already done so. She reminded the Club about the grant of £300.00 that is available to promote membership and that applicants for Global Grants need training.
Chestfield Village Litter Pick, Sunday, March 8th:
The Club turn-out for the Village Litter Pick was a bit disappointing as only two members turned up for what was a good opportunity for the Club to show its support for the village. It was noticeable how many small canisters of nitrous oxide were picked up which had been sniffed by youngsters in the village. This is not a harmless substance and fatalities have been known.
Friday, March 13th, Kent College Interact Murder Mystery Evening:
The Kent College Interact Murder Mystery Evening will be tomorrow evening at 7.00 for 7.30 pm at the college on Whitstable Road, Canterbury, CT2 9DT. The cost will be £10.00 per person but bring your own food and drink.
Saturday, March 14th, RC Herne Bay Race Night:
This event has been cancelled.
Friday, March 20th, Walk4Water:
Walk4Water is still scheduled to take place on Friday, March 20th but it will depend on the schools whether or not to cancel because of coronavirus. A lunch has been organised afterwards at the Royal Oak, Blean.
Thursday, March 26th, Raid by RC Minster:
Everyone is reminded of the evening meal on Thursday, March 26th at the Golf Club when RC Minster will join us. The cost of the meal will be £17.50 per person and guests are welcome. The menu will be a starter of baked brie with a red onion marmalade followed by a main course of baked cod. This will be a regular meeting of the Club and everyone is expected to attend unless they apologise in the usual way.
Tuesday, April, 21st, The Old Forge and Wartime House, Sittingbourne:
Nearly everyone supported Nick’s proposal of a trip to the Old Forge and Wartime House in Sittingbourne and he has arranged the visit for the evening of Tuesday, April 21st at 6.30 pm at the venue. The cost will be £10.00 per person inclusive of tea, a talk and a demonstration. A group of at least twenty is needed for the visit to go ahead and guests will be very welcome. A form has been put in the folder.
